Froots Roots En Shoots – or FRESH as it is otherwise
known – is our food cooperative, run entirely
by the children in Beech class – including customer
services, ordering department, finance, IT department
and quality assurance. It all started as part of a competition
3 years ago, and we are still going strong now!
Froots Roots En Shoots sell locally grown, organic
fruit and vegetables at competitive prices. We are
a non-profit making co-operative and we give away
any excess money we have to worthy causes. Each week,
you can purchase a veg bag containing top quality
veg and a recipe to help you use it all! Just to get
your mouth watering, we have included an example of
one of our recipes below.
There is also an order form if you would like to
order a weekly veg bag from us. Alternatively, you
can email us through the school contact address on
this site (just start your mail ‘FAO: FRS’),
or phone one of our customer services team on the
school contact number. Please note that you don’t
have to order a bag every week and we only consider
delivery in the local area – sorry!
Our job is to order the vegetables.
When they arrive they are bagged up and we deal
with the money coming in for the veg bags. We
always have carrots! Froots Roots En Shoots started
as a competition involving schools in England
and Ireland. We won the prise for the best food
cooperative in the English schools – Karen
Salter, Ordering Department
We make sure that all of the
veg is of very high quality and if something
is rotten and we can’t give them to you
one week, we will give you something extra next
week or give you a refund. Normally, you will
get 5 or 6 different varieties of vegetables.
We pack heavier vegetables at the bottom of
the bag and the lighter ones at the top, so
they don’t get squished! – Alice
Crilly, Quality Assurance
Each week FRS count the amount
of vegetables supplied and we group them together
according to how many veg bags have been ordered.
When we have finished sorting them, our IT department
write a recipe as well – Sacha Deefholts,
IT Department
